Very soon, public transport should be able to cope with the needs of an African population leaving at 50% in urban areas quite extended due to uncontrolled urban sprawls and with concentrations of the poorest at the outskirts. This low income population will not be able to move easily unless efficient and affordable transport systems with high capacity units exist. The implementation of such systems requires clear political wills and their translation into actions and investments.

In this view, UATP organises on average one seminar each year to raise awareness among stakeholders on the forthcoming challenges and issues that the sector will face as well as two training and capacities-building sessions to give them practical tools for a better handling of the transportation systems of their countries.

Combined with this, UATP also holds a yearly General Assembly gathering its members with aside regular meetings of Commissions (technical maintenance, operators, authorities). UATP plans to develop its activities towards the organisation of a congress each 4-year alternately with the UITP World Congress.
