The main aim of this CD-Rom is to share experience and synthesise different approaches in order to improve workshop and depot operation, with the aim of contributing to better cost-efficiency and quality in vehicle maintenance. The study is divided into four broad areas, covering the main maintenance responsibilities: evolution of tasks, quality, safety and environment. A UITP Bus Committee working group reviewed existing literature, analysed it and gave general conclusions, available as a core brief in English, French and German. English summaries of all literature analysed are also available. Where a bibliographic reference is exempt of copyright, it has been attached at the end of the summary. In order to restore the image of the bus mode, it is important to think in terms of a system that integrates not only the vehicles, but the infrastructures and operating policies as well.
