This comprehensive report, illustrated with tables and graphs, analyses emissions and their measurement, compares and assesses the different fuel technologies available - from fossil fuels through various renewable options to electrical energy - and gives a thorough evaluation of the cost aspect, all based upon data collected from real life operations. The main aim of the SORT project is to design reproducible test cycles for on-road tests of buses in order to measure their fuel consumption.

The main aim of this CD-Rom is to share experience and synthesise different approaches in order to improve workshop and depot operation, with the aim of contributing to better cost-efficiency and quality in vehicle maintenance. The study is divided into four broad areas, covering the main maintenance responsibilities: evolution of tasks, quality, safety and environment. A UITP Bus Committee working group reviewed existing literature, analysed it and gave general conclusions, available as a core brief in English, French and German. In order to restore the image of the bus mode, it is important to think in terms of a system that integrates not only the vehicles, but the infrastructures and operating policies as well. A vision of the buses of tomorrow - in terms of design, comfort, accessibility, passenger information, etc - is presented in a ten-year perspective.
