UITP manages, participates in or supports projects and studies in many disciplines related to public transport with a view to encouraging innovation and good practices within the industry and to demonstrate the role of public transport in the development of modern society and economy.

Most of projects and studies are conducted by the UITP Programmes and Studies department with UITP Commissions and Committees composed of experts delegated from member organisations. Projects and Studies sometimes rely on partnership with external researchers and dialogue with experts involved in fieldwork, e.g. for projects conducted with the European Commission.
