Mission
The objective of the UITP EU Committee and the EuroTeam is to represent the interests of public transport undertakings in relation to the Community institutions. Their main tasks are to:
| - |
monitor legislation and provide members with information regarding Community policy developments which could have an impact on their activities |
- |
prepare statements of EU Committee positions on Community questions and issues which are of importance for the sector |
- |
conduct lobbying activities and represent the common interests of members in relation to the European institutions |
- |
assist and advise members concerning all aspects of European policies relating to the public transport sector |
Background
Recognising the growing influence of Community law on the activities of its European members, UITP decided in 1965 to set up a specific committee, which was later, renamed the UITP European Union Committee (UITP EU Committee). This is an independent committee within UITP which deals with all Community matters of concern to its European members. Since June 2009, the Committee is chaired by Tony Depledge, Director of Transport Policy, ARRIVA PLC.
The UITP EU Committee has a European secretariat called the EuroTeam which is likewise independent and has its own budget. Since January 2003, it has been headed by Ms Brigitte Ollier. The EuroTeam members, who are seconded by public transport undertakings or associations, are in regular contact with the European institutions, study the questions and issues involved and propose solutions to the UITP European Union Committee.
